B.C. holds provincial nominee program draw, changes eligibility requirements for entrepreneur category

English Columbia welcomed 284  immigration  possibility to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence and rolled out two significant improvements relating to migrant business people this week.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) issued invitations to candidates in the Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration Categories.

New language requirement, key staff option withdrawn


Changes to the Business visionary immigration Base Classification became effective on January 29, and don't influence applications as of now in preparing.

B.C. presented a base Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) necessity of level 4 or higher so as to qualify.

"The degree of language we are presenting is CLB level 4 and is very essential, guaranteeing the capacity to impart fundamental needs, follow basic discussions or read basic guidelines," a B.C. government archive said.

The province said it is changing these requirements in an effort to impact the integration of immigrants into Canada, among other reasons. It also aligns with the language requirement of the Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot.

Now only the Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream, Yukon Business Nominee Program, and Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Program are the only programs that do not have minimum language criteria for entrepreneur applicants.

Planned Business visionary Movement Base Classification up-and-comers will never again be able to propose key staff in their applications.

Prior to the changes, business visionaries could incorporate key staff individuals on their applications who had mastery fundamental to the achievement of their proposed business.

However, between July 2015 and November 2019, only four per cent of all entrepreneur immigration applications included key staff. The low usage pushed the province to nix the key staff option altogether.

So far this year, B.C. has welcomed 18 business people through the Business person Migration Base Class, and seven through the Business visionary Movement Provincial Pilot.

A year ago 232 business visionaries were welcomed through the Base Classification and 57 by means of the Provincial Pilot.
